POTPOURRI HERBSCAPE

Discover the joy and delight of growing your own potpourri herbscape and get the twofold pleasure of a lovely scented garden as well as the ingredients for scented potpourris that perfume your home and make excellent gifts.

These herbs may be planted in a formal, classic potpourri garden with a central focal point, an informal potpourri border or in containers on the deck or patio. Locate your garden in full sun if possible to get the best growth and blooms and near a window or bench to enjoy the sight and scent during the summer months.

If space is limited, these herbs are essential for scent, texture and color:

Artemisias – silver foliage, white seed heads and slightly lemon scent
Lamb’s Ear – silver color and fuzzy texture
Lavenders – leaves and flowers for classic scent and color
Lemon Verbena – leaves and flowers, lemon scent
Mountain Mint – deep green foliage and refreshing mint scent
Rosemary – leaves and flowers for sweet, pine-like scent and texture

In addition try the following herbs:

Anise Hyssop – leaves and flowers for subtle licorice scent
Basils – leaves and flowers for sweet scent as well as green or purple color
Beebalm – leaves and flowers for minty scent and color
