Organic refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. Organic food production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides, fertilizers, growth stimulants and antibiotics. Simply, organic agriculture is farming without synthetic chemicals. They are also free from genetic manipulation. Additionally, organic foods undergo minimal processing which excludes artificial ingredients, preservatives or irradiation thus producing a product which is simple, healthful and close to nature.
Organic labeling means more than you just pay more for the product! The stringent standards are based on the percentage of organic ingredients in a product. “100% organic” means that the product contains only organically produced ingredients. “Organic” means at least 95% of the content by weight is organically produced. “Made with organic ingredients” means that the product contains at least 70% organic ingredients. If less than 70% of the ingredients are organic, the product may only use the term organic to identify specific ingredients that are organically produced.
The benefits of purchasing and using organic products are numerous. Organic products grown in healthier soil contain higher levels of nutrients and many taste better. Organic production reduces health risks from exposure to chemicals that have been linked to several diseases. Organic farms and farming help to eliminate pollution of water resources, build healthy soils and respect the balance of a healthy ecosystem.
Organic teas come from organic farming and they not only taste better, but they are better for your health and our world. Organic tea is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources like compost and natural fertilizers plus the conservation of soil and water for future generations. It takes over three years for a tea plantation to be certified organic. In that time the plantations are inspected on a regular basis to insure that there is no chemical residue on the tea at any time. As a result, converting gardens and estates is a costly process even when the farmers are already doing a lot of things right.
“But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be the glory both now and forever! Amen.”
