PICNIC TEA PARTY

clip_image002

August is National Picnic Month and a perfect opportunity to spend some fun time with kids or grandkids and their favorite Teddy Bears. Spread a big blanket on the grass and pack the picnic basket with lots of Teddy Bear treats, plus drinks for all. Why not use some of your china as well to make it even more special and create a picnic tea party. Don’t forget to include your special guests in the conversation!

Some favorite sandwiches might include peanut butter and jelly or Nutella cut into fun shapes. Teddy Bear cutout cookies decorated with a big icing bow or individual chocolate cupcakes are always a hit as well and no need to even ice them, just place a bear shape on top and dust with powdered sugar! Iced caffeine free beverages are always perfect for picnics. Here are some easy recipes to help get you started on your own Teddy Bear Picnic Tea Party:

PINEAPPLE-CARROT PINWHEELS: Combine 8oz softened cream cheese with 1/2c drained crushed pineapple and 1/2c shredded carrots. Spread on flour tortillas, roll up, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Slice into 1” pieces.

HONEY-BANANA SANDWICHES: Spread top and bottom slices of whole grain bread with honey, add thin sliced bananas and then remove crusts and cut into triangles.

SANDWICH COOKIES: Simply ice together two Vanilla Wafers with a favorite jam or jelly, refrigerate to firm up and then dip in either white or semi-sweet melted chocolate. Drizzle with the opposite chocolate.

BASIC TEA CAKES: Combine 1 cake mix and 1 1/2c pie filling then whisk until just mixed. Pour into lined mini muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees for 15 mins.

BLUEBERRY-LEMON TEA: In a blender, puree 1/2c blueberries until smooth.  Strain into a pitcher and add lemonade concentrate and chilled brewed caffeine-free tea instead of water.
