DEEP ROOTS

Looking for a cute way to entertain a small group and illustrate a theme of growing deeper in Christian faith?  Each of us needs to grow deep roots because:

  • Deep roots keep us secure in God's love
  • Deep roots anchor us with the truth that God is in control
  • Deep roots hold us steady in the peace of God
  • Deep roots find nourishment in God's grace
  • Deep roots allow for growth of faith in God

Set up a unique dessert bar that looks like a garden bench for planting herbs in pots.  You can use unused clay pots and saucers for serving pieces as well as clay pots as containers for your potted dessert – just run them through the dishwasher first and line with wax paper as a precaution.  I was able to find these mugs which look like clay pots and were just perfect!

Include everything needed to produce deep roots: firm foundation (chocolate cupcakes), fertilizer (several candies such as M&M’s, Reese’s Pieces and gummy worms), top soil (combo of pudding and ground Oreos), seedlings (sprigs of mint or edible flowers) and mulch (coarsely chopped graham crackers).  Label each of the ingredients and post the following instructions:

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend
with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height --
 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Ephesians 3:14-19
